The making of True Colors

When I first thought of the concept for this image, I really had no idea the magnitude of how difficult it would be to accomplish. I thought it would be pretty straightforward to throw some fabric in the pool behind the model. Straightforward. Ha!

The fabrics wouldn't cooperate in the pool. The heavier spandex fabric sank too fast and the sheer fabric flattened out quickly and lost the beautiful curves. Thinking on my feet I decided it would be simpler to not fight with the fabrics and to just add them later in post processing. Simple, Ha! Lots (and I mean LOTS) of fabric composites, layer masks,  color adjustments, and HOURS later, here's the final image (and the before image below, just so you can see how far we came!).

I finished it just in time to show the model on her birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY JORDAN!) and just in time for the upcoming pride month! This image is a reminder to my dear friend Jordan, the LGBTQ community, and anyone else who needs to hear this: You are beautiful, You are fierce, and You are FABULOUS. Come as you are and spread your love and light. Let your true colors shine!

How did I do? Let me know by leaving a comment below!
